Supreme Court directs 'India's Got Latent' fame Samay Raina to invite specially-abled persons on his shows, raise funds for treatment

It has been a tough year for ‘India’s Got Latent’ fame Samay Raina. His show landed in major trouble right at the beginning of the year for a barrage of insensitive jokes and jibes. The comedian has now issued another apology for making jokes on disabled people after orders from the Supreme Court.

As per a report, The Supreme Court has directed Comedian and YouTuber Samay Raina and three other comedians to invite specially-abled persons with success stories to shows held on their platforms, to generate and raise funds for the timely and effective treatment of persons with disabilities.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Chief Justice Surya Kant said, “We hope and expect that such few memorable events will take place before we hear the matter next. It’s a social burden we are putting on you, not a penal burden. You are all well-placed persons in society. If you have become too popular, then share it with others.”

The directions came on a plea filed by Cure SMA Foundation seeking directions against comedians making insensitive remarks against people suffering with disabilities.

Samay Raina’s apology

Raina’s official statement read- “Today is my birthday and instead of celebrating just myself, I want to use this day — the most special day of the year for me—to apologize to the people with disabilities.”

The comedian added, “We, Samay Raina, Vipul Goyal, Sonali Thakkar, Nishant Tanwar, Balraj Ghai, deeply regret the pain caused due to our show. Going forward, we will be more mindful and do our best to spread awareness about the challenges faced by the community. Your strength inspires us to grow. With respect and gratitude, Samay, Vipul Goyal, Balraj Ghai, Sonali Thakkar, Nishant Tanwar.”

Samay Raina said earlier this year he had removed all episodes of “India’s Got Latent” from his YouTube channel, days after the show landed in a controversy over a remark by influencer Ranveer Allahbadia.

In his first response since the controversy erupted earlier this week, Raina said he will fully cooperate with all the investigating agencies in their probe.
