Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas, four years after exchanging vows, announced their separation in September 2023. Soon, they initiated divorce proceedings with Jonas filing for dissolution of marriage cited as “irretrievably broken” in Miami. Now, the actress is reportedly moving forward with her divorce from her estranged husband. Reports suggest that Sophie’s legal team filed a petition to “reactivate” the divorce case.
As per the court documents obtained by PEOPLE on Monday, Sophie’s legal team filed paperwork in Miami-Dade County, Florida in which it stated “that the abatement has come to an end and this case is to be re-activated.”
Joe and Sophie are parents to two daughters, Willa and Delphine, born in 2020 and 2022 respectively. A temporary custody agreement established in October 2023 had been in place which remained in effect till January 2024. With the agreement, the parents had reached an interim consent order allowing equal time with their children in both the US and the UK.
Meanwhile, the divorce was put on hold as the couple wanted to work out child custody arrangements. Later, the problem arose when Sophie filed a child abduction claim against Joe, accusing him of violating international law by refusing to let the kids travel to England to see their mum.
In January, Sophie stepped in with the decision to drop the “wrongful retention” claims against Joe after an American judge approved the dismissal of the filing once both stars signed a consent plan. The couple agreed to dismiss the filing “with prejudice and without attorneys’ fees, expenses, costs and/or disbursements awarded to either party” following the approval of their parenting agreement in the UK on January 11.
Joe and Sophie issued a joint statement confirming their separation last year in September. The statement read, “After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”
