After facing the possibility of a clash with major films like Padman and Aiyaary on 9 February, writer-director Ranjan pushed his release date to 23 February, which helped both the film as well as the makers.

According to film trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the new-age romantic comedy, featuring Luv Ranjan films' regulars — Kartik Aryan and Nushrat Bharucha — along with Sunny Singh, is inching close to the Rs 50 crore-mark. As of 2 March, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety has managed to mint Rs 45.94 crore in India.

As per earlier reports, Ranjan's film has turned out to be this year's biggest opener only after Padmaavat and Padman.

Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety examines the new-age belief that a marriage is also between two friend circles that the bride and groom belong to. The film chronicles what happens when one decides to get married despite their best friend and girlfriend not getting along. The film is produced by T-Series' Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar and Luv Films' Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg.
