Screenshot from YouTube[/caption] The film is set in the 1975 when the Emergency was declared across the country. Sushant Singh Rajput, Manoj Bajpayee and Ranvir Shorey play the baaghis or rebels terrorising the region. Rajput is Lakhna, a member of Shorey’s character Vakil’s gang. Bhumi Pednekar also joins the pack who traverse the dry, mountainous ravines or beehad of Chambal. Ashutosh Rana plays a policeman, tasked with the responsibility to cleanse the area of all the bandits, and who vows to kill them all. Bajpayee has previously starred in Shekhar Kapur’s dacoir film Bandit Queen in 1994. With the release of Paan Singh Tomar release nearly six years ago, Sonchiriya could usher in the
forgotten genre of dacoit drama
in Bollywood. This film also marks the first collaboration of Pednekar and Rajput. Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, who has been at the helm of films like Udta Punjab, Dedh Ishqiya and Ishqiya, and presented by Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP movies, Sonchiriya is slated to release in cinemas on 8 February.
