"Sometimes, I feel I want to be stereotyped, but fortunately, I’m getting a variety of roles”, says Sharib Hashmi

Sharib Hashmi has carved a unique niche for himself in the entertainment industry with his impeccable comic timing and ability to deliver witty one-liners, often leaving audiences in splits. Known for his memorable performances in The Family Man, Tarla and other light-hearted roles, Sharib has gained a reputation for making humor an essential part of his characters. However, in his latest ZEE5 Original, ‘Khoj: Parchaiyon Ke UssPaar’, the actor takes on a decidedly more serious role, marking a shift in his career. In this gripping thriller, Sharib plays Ved, a man caught in a complex situation involving a missing wife and a woman who claims to be her. This marked departure from his usual comedic roles made fans wonder how Sharib would handle a character with much more gravity. In an interesting conversation, Sharib opens up about the evolution of his roles, the challenges of meeting audience expectations, and how he has embraced the diversity of characters that have come his way.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Reflecting on his evolving career, Sharib shares, "After Family Man, I thought I would only get cop roles, but I think I’ve played very different roles since then, like in Tarla, Khoj, and Vedaa."When asked about the shift in tone and how he feels about satisfying his fans’ expectations of humor, Sharib says, “I used to suggest adding my inputs and one-liners to make the situation humorous, but unfortunately, those ideas were rejected by the director. In this role, I haven’t had the chance to make the audience laugh, but I hope they will love and appreciate whatever I have done."

He acknowledges the support he’s received from fans for embracing diverse characters. “Audiences have seen me in multiple roles and have accepted them all. I’ve played negative roles in Vikram Vedha, portrayed a serious character in Afawa, and in Tarla, I played a very positive, supportive husband. Even in Khoj, my character is very different from what I’ve done before—I’m glad that fans have always welcomed these shifts."Reflecting on his career, Sharib admits, “Sometimes, I feel like I want to be stereotyped, but fortunately, I’m getting a variety of roles, and I’m glad for it."
