Sofia Vergara, who is best known for playing Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on the comedy show Modern Family, is the world’s highest paid TV actress in 2017, reports Forbes. This is the sixth year in a row that the Emmy-nominated actress has received this distinction.
She is said to have earned $41.5 million before taxes and fees, which puts her at an advantage of over $15 million than the first runner up, The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco. Cuoco, who plays Penny on the show, reportedly earned $26 million in the same period, that is, 12 months to 1 June.
Each episode earns her roughly $1 million, but Vergara’s pay cheque from Modern Family accounts for a quarter of her earnings. A major chunk comes from endorsements and licensing deals, whereby she can have a stake in the sales of products she endorses. Interestingly, Julie Bowen, who plays Claire on the show, earns the same per-episode pay as Vergara, but is outdone by Vergara when it comes to business deals and tie-ups.
At the third position are Ellen Pompeo, who plays the protagonist of Grey’s Anatomy and Mindy Kaling, who stars in the The Mindy Project. Bollywood’s own Priyanka Chopra stands at the eigth rank on the list; the Quantico star earned $10 million.
It was recently announced that Emma Stone is the highest paid actress of 2017 , with earnings totalling $26 million.
