Shilpa Shetty's husband Raj Kundra's UT69 Movie Review: Plotless, mindless, one-sided narrative

Raj Kundra’s UT69 would have been watchable had it shown the side- stories. Portraying  Kundra as a hero turned out to be an unbearable watch. Many times while watching the film, I felt why a movie on him? What has he done to occupy so much celluloid space? And so much mention of Shilpa Shetty in the film will make you feel puckish. Shilpa Shetty is hardly a star and my question is whether she is even relevant at all or not? In UT69 Raj Kundra is shown asking for his stay at the celebrity cell (No.10), but doesn’t get it. Why was he even expecting a celebrity cell and celebrity treatment inside the jail? He is a business man who was arrested on running a pornography racket and if he thought that the movie is going to help him in whitewashing his image then he is sadly mistaken.

I am sure like me, many of our viewers were interested in wanting to know the case and what was this pornography racket all about. We were really interested in knowing whether he was guilty or not? Definitely not a clean person, he completely avoided the topic by trying to divert our attention to what a ‘good’ and ‘humble’ boy he was in the jail despite being Shilpa Shetty’s husband? Why would anybody be interested in knowing the challenges faced by him in jail? Trying to avoid any uncomfortable questions on the case, Kundra has made a desperate attempt to villainize the fourth estate. Probably he thought that to be an easy way to run away from his sins and involvement in a pornography racket. With his put-on accent, Kundra wants to show how much of a VIP he is or how different he is from the rest of the convicts. The biggest disappointment of the film UT69 is that it never touches upon the pornography racket the Kundra was involved in. This makes me question as to why the hell do we need to watch a film made my him which is trying to somehow glorify him and whitewash his sins! He doesn’t realise that  audiences are intelligent enough to understand that ’this man’ is trying to ‘hide’ something. UT69 is one of the least impactful films of the year, though the makers tried very hard to take a human interest angle to it. Rating: 0.5 out of 5
