Namita Thapar, the executive director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals and a judge on ‘Shark Tank India’, is currently garnering applause for her bold step where she bravely spoke about her struggles with perimenopause. In one of the episodes of the business reality shows Shark Tank India, Namita reflected on the topics that are hardly discussed on a bigger platform and candidly discussed the challenges she faced during the transitional period before menopause. She even dropped a post on her X handle, sparking a conversation surrounding women’s health.
Namita’s Instagram post featured a short note and a video from the show where she shared her experience during perimenopause. Namita wrote, ‘‘Women don’t prioritise their health & don’t speak up. I’ve used the Shark Tank platform to speak about my experiences with mental health, IVF, fitness & now perimenopause. Most women are not aware of the symptoms, or treatment options, let’s get educated & take charge of our health.”

In the video shared by Namita, she revealed how she became anaemic and the heavy bleeding during her periods made it uncomfortable for her to even sit while shooting for Shark Tank. As the video proceeded, Namita also divulged that her haemoglobin went to 8 (g/dl), thereby compelling her to take injections for five months.
The Shark Tank judge opened up on the challenges after the founders of Matri, a company creating devices to alleviate menstrual pain, made it to the stage to pitch for their brand.
Soon after the video was dropped, people started heaping praises on Namita for speaking about the seldom-discussed topic. One user emphasised the need to raise awareness around women’s health saying, ‘‘Thank you for breaking the silence and sharing your journey. Women need to prioritize their health and speak up. Education empowers us to take control. Let’s continue raising awareness and supporting each other.’’
Another praised Namita saying, ‘‘Being an entrepreneur, you have the guts to talk about how this issue but the medical industry is profiting from this problem rather than trying to educate people. I adore you so much.”
