Sharat Saxena opens up on his struggle story in the 90s

Veteran star Sharat Saxena started his career by working in supporting roles and later appeared in a number of action and comedy films. While Saxena is known for featuring in a number of hit films, there was a time when the actor actually had no one work even after the success of Aamir Khan’s Ghulam. In a conversation with Rajshri Unplugged, the veteran actor opened up on how he struggled to find work after appearing in the 1998 film. Besides that, he also shared how Aamir Khan himself suggested his name for the film, which eventually got him a nomination for Best Villain at the Filmfare Awards.

He further also recalled asking the actor about the reason for choosing him. Mentioning that it was at the film’s success party at the producer’s house, Saxena recounted that he asked Aamir why he thought of him for the role. “He said whenever I have seen you, I saw you in small roles and you did it a good way. That’s why I suggested your name,” he recalled Aamir as saying.

However, the film’s success did not work out for Saxena as it was immediately after that the film industry had briefly “shut down” following the assassination of Gulshan Kumar.

Opening up about the struggles that he faced, Sharat said that the assassination caused a lot of tension in the film industry. “No one was announcing film films, no one was releasing films,” he said further adding that it badly affected his career. “I did not get the work I could have gotten in that period, this was a tragedy in my life,” he added.

The actor had also decided to quit the Hindi film industry and venture into the South Indian film industry. Stating that he used to get cast only for fight scenes in Hindi movies, the actor expressed that he wanted to do something substantial.

On the professional front, the actor in a career spanning almost five decades has worked in a number of successful films in Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu film industries. He is best known for his work in films like Mr India, Tridev, Ghulam, Ghayal, Krrish, Bajrangi Bhaijaan , and Phir Hera Pheri.
