The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has stalled the release of Shahana Goswami’s ‘Santosh’, UK’s official entry for the Oscars. The board has asked for multiple changes due to the theme and depiction of violence and police force.
Goswami told India Today, “The censor has given a list of changes they require for the film to release and we as a team are not in agreement with the cuts as they would change the film too much, and so it is in a deadlock where it probably won’t release theatrically in India.”
“It’s just sad that something that has gone through censor approval at the script level should require so many cuts and changes for it to be considered okay to release in India,” Goswami added.
Shahana Goswami is one of the finest actors in the industry who has made some compelling choices in her career. She graced the 77th annual Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of her film Santosh directed by Sandhya Suri.
While talking to Sucharita Tyagi, she spoke about the challenges to be here. She said ‘We all come with a budget, I wish there was better structure, a sandwich here costs Rs 2000.’
And in an exclusive interview with Firstpost, talking about her film Zwigato, Goswami said, “ Zwigato with Nandita Das was just a deeper dive, but I feel we both are the same and also developed in some ways or the other. That tuning that we had made me feel that we were coming to a familiar ground, that gap of ten- years was not felt. Also working with Kapil Sharma was such a beautiful surprise, he was a delight to work with. As an actor, he gives a lot, his choices are very surprising and I really enjoyed feeding off his energy, watching him and learning.”
