Is Shah Rukh Khan in legal trouble over Mannat renovation?

An activist has alleged violations in the renovation plan, urging the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to step in and pause the work. As Gauri Khan was in talks with the authorities about adding two floors to their six-storey bungalow, intervention of National Green Tribunal (NGT) can put a stop to this.

Social activist Santosh Daundkar has accused Shah Rukh Khan and the Maharashtra authority over clearances for renovations in Mannat, Bar & Bench reported on Monday.

As per reports published in MINT, Mannat which is a Grade III heritage structure; any structural change can only occur after securing proper permissions. The activist also claimed that the actor committed fraud by merging twelve 1-BHK flats meant for mass housing into one home for a single family.

What we knew so far about the renovation?

Firstpost had earlier reported that the Maharashtra Government would be refunding Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan Rs 9 crore that he had paid in excess to convert the lease of his sea-facing bungalow `Mannat’.

Resident suburban collector Satish Bagal had mentioned that in 2019, Shah Rukh Khan and his wife Gauri Khan converted the lease of the heritage property in Bandra to ‘class 1 complete ownership’, and paid the government some premium for it.

After discovering a tabulation error on the basis of which the premium was calculated, the Khans filed an application before the revenue authority for refund which was sanctioned earlier this week, he said.
