Kristin Davis, who garnered popularity for portraying Charlotte York in Sex and the City and And Just Like That, recently spoke about an unpleasant and uncomfortable filming experience.
Davis revealed that she was pressured into a scene where she had to expose her chest in the first episode of Season 5.
Admitting it was a “mortifying" moment and that she didn’t want to do it, Davis said in a podcast episode of Are You a Charlotte? that showrunner Michael Patrick King “forced" her to go through that scene.
“Michael Patrick forced me to do it. He kept telling me, ‘It’ll be fine. It’ll be great’. And it is. But we were in a restaurant. There were people everywhere," Kristin said.
While talking to HBO writer Jenny Bicks, the actress shared why her first nude scene in Season 6 was “challenging" to shoot and said, “It was a very, very integral part of the storyline. Because it wasn’t sexual, it’s much easier to have some nudity in a non-sexual way, in a spiritual way."
Sex and the City, the popular American television series, is based on Candace Bushnell’s book. Featuring Carrie Bradshaw, Charlotte York, Miranda Hobbes, and Samantha Jones in lead roles, the show narrates the lives of four women in New York City, which explores the dynamics of love, friendship, ambition and careers.
The show, which aired from 1998 to 2004, was lauded for its honest portrayal of women’s relationships, sexuality, and other underlayered complexities. The show later inspired two movies and a spinoff And Just Like That…
