He is all set to be seen in the upcoming film Student of the Year 2 as the school principal, the role which was played by Rishi Kapoor in the 2012 prequel.

In an interview with DNA, Soni revealed his excitement about the project. "SOTY 2 is a fresh story, only the franchise is being carried forward. Rishi is the finest actor we have. He did a fabulous job in the first part and people remember him. I am nervous and excited to step into his shoes, although it’s not the same character. I’m  looking forward to the challenge," said the actor.

He also revealed that his role would be quite different from that of Rishi Kapoor's in the first installment. He won't be playing a gay character, but will have his own quirks; he will not play the "normal, boring" principal.

This is Soni's second film with the SOTY 2 director Punit Malhotra after the 2010 film I Hate Luv Storys, starring Sonam Kapoor and Imran Khan.

Student of the Year 2 stars Tiger Shroff in the lead role. The production of the film goes on floors in mid-April, informs Soni. He will be flying off to Dehradun to join the team for the first shoot schedule. The film is slated to release on 23 November.
