Salman Khan has spoken about his battle with trigeminal neuralgia many times in the past. He went abroad for his surgery back in 2011 during the release of Bodyguard.
According to sources close to the actor, Salman left for the US for a surgery in September 2011. “He (Salman) is suffering from acute pain in his jaw. He will go to the US for treatment,” a source close to the 45-year-old actor said.
“The pain is a bit too much now. So I am going now to the US to get it fixed… There is constant pain. I wouldn’t give this pain to my worst enemy,” Salman was quoted as saying.
The actor spoke about it again on Netflix’s ‘ _The Great Indian Kapil Show_ ’. Salman was quoted saying, “I’m out here breaking my bones every day — ribs are fractured, I’m working despite having trigeminal neuralgia, there’s an aneurysm in the brain, yet I’m still working.”
He added, “AV malformation hai, uske bawajood chal rahe hain ( There’s also an AV malformation, and still, I’m carrying on).”
Khan also said many years back, “No matter how much pain you are going through, it made me realise that you can’t put any subtitles — your ligament is torn, you have the flu or that your knee is hurting — in any of your scenes.”
What is arteriovenous malformation (AVM)?
According to MAYO CLINIC, “A brain arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is a tangle of blood vessels that creates irregular connections between arteries and veins in the brain. Arteries take oxygen-rich blood from the heart to the brain. Veins carry oxygen-depleted blood back to the lungs and heart. A brain AVM disrupts this vital process. An arteriovenous malformation can develop anywhere in the body, but common locations include the brain and spinal cord. Overall, brain AVMs are rare.”
