'Rishi Kapoor ruined me,' said this actress who debuted opposite the star and then left Bollywood

Rishi Kapoor holds the record for working with maximum newcomers since his brush with stardom and success happened merely at the age of 21 back in 1973. After Bobby, which marked the debut of Dimple Kapadia, the names were aplenty. One of them was Kajal Kiran, who made her debut with Hum Kisi Se Kum Naheen that came out on 1977. It was a smash hit but her career dwindled post the release and she blamed Kapoor for the same.

The late actor quipped she was only trying to find excuse for her bad luck in films. The actress then got married and is now a resident of Europe for three decades.

Kapoor became an overnight sensation after his father Raj Kapoor cast him in Bobby while he was only 21. Bobby released in the same year as Zanjeer, the film that catapulted Amitabh Bachchan to stardom. As Bachchan went on to dominate the Hindi film landscape over the next decade with his Angry Young Man persona, Kapoor probably remained the only contemporary to find stardom while being hat ke. He was everything that Bachchan was not.

He was youthful. He was spunky. He was sharaarti, musical and he could dance. Sample any of his films from this phase - Rafoo Chakkar, Khel Khel Mein, Hum Kisise Kum Nahin, Karz or Saagar – Kapoor could be just as intense as Bachchan, but more than anyone else, it was he who remained quintessential Bollywood by being romantic and charming.

Kapil Sharma is back with his comedy show but this time on Netflix, called ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’. Ranbir Kapoor graced the opening episode along with mother Neetu Kapoor and sister Riddhima Kapoor.

And on the show, the actor revealed how his father and late actor Rishi Kapoor hit him only once but it was really hard. He said, “He hit me only once, very hard. He was a very religious man. I think I was eight or nine years old. I had entered the temple premises with my shoes on. So he had hit me on the head.”
