Once again the news about popular rapper Eminem’s death has started making rounds on social media. Upon searching the rapper’s name on Google, it shows that the Slim Shady singer passed away on 10 December 2023 in Madison Wisconsin. While the news is completely untrue, it was not long before it spread like wildfire across all social media platforms, leaving fans furious and confused about the fake news. However, they did breathe a huge sigh of relief upon learning that the rapper had not passed away, but everybody wanted to get to the bottom of what led to the spread of the news. What led to the Eminem death hoax? It began after a social media page highlighted that Eminem’s Wikipedia page had listed his fake death news. This further fuelled confusion among fans as Google searches displayed erroneous information, leading many fans to believe that the rapper had passed away.

However, it later came to the fore that the news was fake and that someone had edited the Wikipedia page causing the entire fiasco on social media. While fans were furious with the Wikipedia user, the fake news also led to a series of memes. “People who do this need to be locked up or fined,” a user wrote, while another one wrote, “There needs to be some form of consequence for people who do this. Wikipedia also needs stricter guidelines, you can’t just let ANYBODY edit your page. Even though, we grow up to learn Wikipedia is not credible, there is still so many people who don’t realize that.” Not just across social media platforms, fans also took to the singer’s latest Instagram post that he shared last week to check on whether he was alive or not.

Notably, this is not the first time that a death hoax around the singer has taken over the internet. Earlier in August this year, a Facebook page claimed that the rapper passed away on August 19, amassing over 1 million likes. While this created a huge outrage among fans, Eminem’s representative later had to confirm that he was actually alive and well Back in 2006, another conspiracy theory made rounds claiming that Eminem had died and the one who walks on the Earth is his clone.
