Prime Video’s Lord of the Rings The Rings of Power Season 2 Review

Language: English

Cast: Robert Aramayo, Benjamin Walker, Morfydd Clark, Charlie Vickers, Charles Edwards, Maxim Baldry, Owain Arthur, Sophia Nomvete, Markella Kavanagh, Daniel Weyman, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Megan Richards, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Trystan Gravelle, Rory Kinnear

As darkness looms over middle-earth, Prime Video’s  _Lord of the Rings The Rings of Power Season 2_  is far more engaging than Season 1 and most importantly the breathtaking visuals will take you to a different world. Sauron gets all the more powerful and it’s the rise of this ultimate evil when ambition gets obnoxious. It’s about the journey to destroy the rings of power.

With all its magnificent visuals and powerful performances, but somewhere I felt it got a little directionless. You get to see a lot of mudslinging and politics, which you don’t really see in Season 1 which is much calmer. There is constant action, sometimes a little overdone, but there is nothing monotonous about it.  Season 2 pushes Middle-earth into darkness as Sauron makes a haunting return.  As the show inches closer to the release, and as we prepare ourselves to uncover the darker, wilder, and scarier side.

As Sauron gets more and more ambitious and his quest to rule the world will keep you at the edge. But if you compare it with Peter Jackson’s LOTR trilogy you will realise that this show is a bit of an over stretch and lacks the art of soothing storytelling. Probably when I was a young adult and watched the LOTR movies, I didn’t have much understanding about cinema, but becoming a critic made me realise that to make content engaging, storytelling needs to be brilliant especially for the digital platform.

Season 2 introduces several fascinating new characters, from the great craftsman Narvi, a dwarf expert in something, to Camnir, a warrior whose bravery will be put to the test when Elrond’s band of warrior-elves encounters an unexpected attack. This season also introduces Mirdania, a protégé of master craftsman Celebrimbor, whose loyalty is challenged by an unexpected visitor who arrives in Eregion, and Rian, whose courage and aim will prove invaluable in the fight for Eregion. These characters are poised to enrich the storyline, adding a layer of intrigue to Season 2.

If you compare Lord of the Rings The Rings of Power Season 2 to its previous season, you realise that it is way more immersive. But still lacks the magic of Peter Jackson’s LOTR trilogy. Many of Tolkien’s fans will not agree to the storytelling of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 because it was unable to re-create that world. The problem with this show is that it’s utterly confusing and even the recap of Season 1 doesn’t help much. So to actually understand the different layers of the story and the characters, you will have to watch the entire Season 1 all over again before diving into Season 2.
