Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Stree 2 refused to slow down at the box office. After enjoying a record-breaking extended opening weekend, the horror-comedy entered the Rs 600-crore club and created history.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Tripathi spoke about the franchise and revealed, “During Stree, the producers had told me that if Stree works really well, they will give me a bonus. That amount was crossed in four days for the first part. I didn’t even know when the makers had put that same clause in my contract for Stree 2 too, as for (producer) Dinesh Vijan films I never read the agreement. And the figure for the sequel was crossed in just two days.”
He added, “The happiness audience got after watching the first part, played a huge role in bringing the audience to theatre for the sequel in the first weekend itself. Otherwise, people wait for the weekend to get over to know the reviews and the performance, but for franchise films that isn’t the case.”
Also, in an exclusive interview with Firstpost, the leading man spoke about the success of the sequel, playing the unforgettable character of Vicky again, his three consecutive hits of 2024, and what we can expect in part three.
Rao said, “I was expecting that people would go and watch the film. I know that the fan base of Stree is huge. But to have these kind of numbers even on weekdays was unexpected. We are super elated that it’s happening with our film.”
The actor continued, “I don’t sit back and think behind box office numbers, I’m not the box office kind of a guy (smiles). But I’m aware that it’s doing well ever since the weekend has started and it’s a clear run in a way for the next couple of weeks.”
