Actor-filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, who will be next seen in Netflix’s docu-series - The Roshans alongside son Hrithik Roshan and brother Rajesh Roshan, recently opened up about the shooting incident where he was shot in broad daylight in Mumbai as he was getting out of his office weeks after the release of Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai.
For the unversed, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, which marked the debut of Hrithik Roshan, is considered the best first-screen appearance of any debutant.
After he was shot with two bullets, Rakesh Roshan drove himself to the hospital and recovered miraculously. This incident was linked with the underworld as many stars used to get threats from them during the 90s and 2000s and it was a scary situation after the assassination of Gulshan Kumar in 1997.
Rakesh recently revealed that the underworld criminals wanted Hrithik Roshan to work in a film, which will be financed by them and when he refused, he was shot. “I never gave any indication that Hrithik could do a film for them. I kept putting them off saying Hrithik had no dates, which in any case, was the truth. They then asked me to take dates away from other producers and give it to them. This again, I refused to do,” Rakesh Roshan told Bollywood Hungama.
“Once I had committed my son’s dates elsewhere, I refused to give into arm twisting tactics. I never gave in. With the kind of tension and fear that some of us had to bear, we couldn’t do anything creative, let alone make a film,” he added.
Shortly after this incident, Hrithik Roshan shared that he wanted to quit films as he felt “directly or indirectly responsible” for Rakesh’s shooting while talking to Simi Garewal in an interview.
