Netflix’s Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders Review

Language: Hindi

Director: Honey Trehan

Cast: Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Chitrangadha Singh, Radhika Apte and more

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is one of the most underrated actors in our country. Despite being a craftsman who knows his job to the T, we still believe that his big break is yet to come. Just as his name suggests in the film Jatil Yadav, Nawazuddin is one such actor who handles jatil (complex) roles with ease.

_Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders_ is a crime-thriller sequel on Netflix, following Inspector Jatil Yadav (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) as he investigates a ruthless mass murder within a wealthy family who are owners of a big media company. Directed by Honey Trehan, this dark film explores how the fourth estate shuts down truth. And it is engaging as hell to watch the murder puzzle being solved. Just like Season 1, Netflix’s _‘Raat Akeli Ha_i’ 2 doesn’t divert from keeping the writing immersive and the best part of this film is that it never thins down.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

The film opens the doors to the Bansal mansion, where some crows get killed because of water poisoning. And that very night members of the Bansal family are found slaughtered behind locked rooms, and every survivor has something to fear. The best thing about this film is that , it is very unpredictable and the film takes a complete different turn right at the end. Nawazuddin Siddiqui once said that he thinks he is the ugliest looking actor in the industry, but for people who understand cinema, he is one of the finest craftsman. Netflix has proved it yet again that cinema can be hugely political.

The others in the police force is seen wanting to shut down the case quickly by putting the blame on a family member who is a drug addict. But Inspector Jatil ( Nawazuddin Siddiqui) doesn’t want to give up on this. He smells something more complex and grittier than expected. Looks like everyone in this case is trying to hide something. Jatil believes Neera played by Chitrangadha Singh and her Guru Ma played by Deepti Naval has a major role to play.

A still from Netflix’s Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders

Things take an ugly turn as Inspector Jatil starts digging on it. There is more to the story of Netflix’s Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders, and yet again it shows how the huge divide between the haves and the have-nots is a major reason behind the crime. This leads to the unraveling of long-buried secrets within a powerful family.

Going back to the performances, undeniably Nawazuddin Siddiqui is a master craftsman. The best thing about him is that there is restrained emotion that he shows, and that’s what makes his performance absolutely brilliant. He is effortless and knows how to get into the skin of the character. His expressions are brilliant. There is nothing that is in excess in his acting or even the script. In fact, it’s just the right dose of emotion, thrill, humour, and anger that is shown. But, I was hoping to see more of Radhika Apte in Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders, which was very limited. Yet her presence was impactful.
