Here's why we celebrate National Cinema Day and movie tickets are sold only for Rs 99

Between 2020 and 2021, when the globe was collectively under lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, films were largely being viewed on televisions and mobile phones. Post 2022, when cinema halls reopened, it was a euphoric feeling for all film buffs. What’s National Cinema Day? The Multiplex Association of India decided to celebrate National Cinema Day to mark the occasion of the reopening of cinema halls and celebrating the joy of fans and film exhibitors and distributors that faced losses during the pandemic. To accommodate higher footfalls, ticket prices were subsidized that only led to packed shows all over. Last year, the occasion was celebrated on September 23 and films like Brahmastra, Chup: Revenge of the Artist, Dhokha Round D Corner reaped benefits of the same. This year, it’s being celebrated on October 13. This time, it’s films like Mission Raniganj , 800, Jawan . Survey and statistics on movie viewing According to a report by The CineFiles, 98% Indians believe cinematic magic can only be brought alive on the big screen with a third of them attributing it to certain directors, themes, VFXamongst others. In fact, 90% respondents’ usual go-to option for out-of-home experiences is catching the latest movie release in the theatre amongst other leisure activities such as shopping, live gigs, adventure outings and more, further reiterating that the big screen theatre experience continues to be a mainstay in the cultural fabric of India. The CineFiles report was launched by BookMyShow. With 63% having movies on their mind at least once every fortnight, it is certain that the cinematic experience is the choicest form of entertainment for cinephiles across the length and breadth of the country, with the younger GenZ and Millennial cohorts thinking of the big screen experience for their movie watching outing every week!
