On Tuesday, actor Hrithik Roshan shared on social media that his father Rakesh Roshan will undergo a surgery for throat cancer. He was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the throat. It was detected a few weeks ago and Rakesh has been undergoing treatment since then. Hours after this revelation, prayers and wishes started flooding in. Among those were that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Modi retweeted the post shared by the actor and wrote that he is praying for the filmmaker’s good health and also called him a “fighter” who will face the challenge with “utmost courage”.

Thanking Modi for his concern, Hrithik tweeted that his father’s surgery has gone well and the doctors have confirmed that Rakesh is doing fine.

Rakesh made his Bollywood debut in 1970 as an actor with Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani. He is best known for his performances in Buniyaad, Khoobsurat, Kaamchor and Bhagwan Dada among others. He also directed very successful films like Khoon Bhari Maang, King Uncle, Koyla, Karan Arjun and and the superhero Krrish film series.
