In our lives, we come across several unsung heroes of society, who constantly put efforts for the betterment of society without any selfish nature or expecting anything in return. One of them was Indian Centenarian Free Educationist Nanda Prusty, the mystic teacher, who struggled to run one of India’s last traditional open-air schools called Chatasali and gave free education to the poor for more than 70 years in his village Kantira.
His transition from an actor to a teacher is shown by filmmaker Pranab Kumar Aich’s hybrid documentary Nanda Master’nka Chatasali, which delves into the life of an extraordinary and humble personality.
While the initial and young part of Nanda Master is played by an actor, the majority portion features real personality as we see his daily routine, which is filled with simplicity and unwavering commitment to serve his village on a profound spiritual path.
In Nanda Master’s journey of 100 years, we see the whole country transforming and his simplicity and spirituality are intact.
Just before his unexpected death at the age of 103 years, Nanda Master garnered limelight for getting honoured with Padma Shri (4th highest Civilian award in the country).
The biggest highlight of the event was that at the age of 103, he climbed up the stage barefoot to bless President Ram Nath Kovind while receiving one of the highest civilian honours in India, Padma Shri. Instantly becoming popular across India due to this act, which is rare and against the norm."
On the whole, Nanda Master'nka Chatasali is much more than a film. It’s an emotional, experience, and inspiration and above a symbol of truthfulness, which teaches the true essence of life. Hates off to Pranab Kumar Aich for this craft and gratitude for letting the world know about this magnetic personality.
