After impressing everyone with his spine-chilling avatar as Danger Lanka in Singham Again, Arjun Kapoor is set to entertain the audience with his romantic act in Mudassar Aziz’s Mere Husband Ki Biwi, costarring Rakul Preet Singh, Bhumi Pednekar, and Harsh Gujral. While the trailer promised to take us on an entertaining ride, does it strike the right chord with cinegoers? Let’s find out.
Set in Delhi, Ankur Chadda ( Arjun Kapoor ) has a nightmare of his ex-wife Prabhleen Kaur Dhillon ( Bhumi Pednekar ) trying to kill him. He wakes up shocked and opens his cupboard to check the divorce degree.
While he often looks dull and sad his friend Rehan Qureshi (Harsh Gujral) and father (Shakti Kapoor) tell Ankur to back to Hrishikesh and lock in some property deals. While showing a farmhouse to a client, Ankur accidentally meets his college crush Antara Khanna (Rakul Preet Singh).
Soon Ankur and Antara fall in love with each other but since the latter is confused about the future of this relationship, Ankur decides to tell her everything about his past with Prabhleen and why they parted ways.
Antara gets clarity and decides to marry Ankur. However, the twist in the story takes place when Prabhleem meets with an accident and is now diagnosed with Retrograde amnesia and has forgiven 5-7 years of her current life. Her last memory is about Ankur proposing to her in SRK style. Now, as per doctors, Prabhleen should not get into trauma as it might affect her health badly. So, how will Ankur manage this complicated situation? Well, for that you have to watch Mere Husband Ki Biwi.
Director Mudassar Aziz known for helming films like Happy Bhag Jayegi, Pati Patni Aur Woh and Khel Khel Mein, has beautifully blended the comic elements with modern-day relationships, which shows how compatibility and work-life balance along with mutual respect is the pillar and crucial element between husband and wife.
I can’t say Mere Husband Ki Biwi is not flawless but what makes it worth watching is its relevance and believability of the storytelling.
Talking about the performances, Arjun Kapoor makes the character of Ankur relatable and hits the chords with his nuanced act. Rakul Preet and Bhumi hit the ball out of the park with their meaty characters. Harsh Gujral impresses with his bang-on comic timing with abled support by Shakti Kapoor and other veterans.
On the whole, Mere Husband Ki Biwi is expected to find an audience for its relatability and storytelling.
