MAA: Kajol meets 'Shaitaan' star R. Madhavan as they discuss the common Ajay Devgn connection; is a new universe in the making?

After the cop, spy, and horror-comedy universe, is Hindi cinema planning a new universe with Kajol and R. Madhavan? Maa, Kajol’s next film, stems from the same universe as last year’s thriller Shaitaan. And the two actors have dropped a conversation with each other recently that gives us a glimpse of what the film is about.

Talking about the movie Kajol says, ”What hit me the most was and I wanted to do the movie because of Maa Kali. I love her and she is Maa in my head and I always felt like her hand is on my head. She is always behind me and that was one of the reasons why I adored the script and of course the script was excellent. When we first heard the script we were sure it was going to be a fantastic film.”

R Madhavan candidly also spoke how he was spooked out during shooting certain scenes in Shaitaan. His character had stolen the spotlight and given us sleepless haunting nights.

While shooting a particular scene Maddy reveals, ”The scene where I make the daughter dance the entire night and she cant hold her bladder any more and she pees. So as a villain if I see it the entire messaging changes so I had to think what can I do differently and change the feeling into disgust. So I covered my face with a sheet so I didn’t have to see it. So there were certain scenes that made me uncomfortable but I did find my way out of it.”

Presented by Jio Studios and Devgn Films, Maa is produced by Ajay Devgn and Jyoti Deshpande, and co-produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak. The film is set for a theatrical release on 27th June 2025.
