After their OTT debuts with The Archies and Maharaj, Khushi Kapoor and Junaid Khan are set to entertain the audience with their first theatrical biggie Loveyapa. While the trailer and songs have struck a chord with the audience, let’s find out whether the rom-com drama has managed to win the hearts of cinegoers.
Gaurav ( Junaid Khan) and Baani ( Khushi Kapoor), two young couples from Delhi, symbolise the cliche digital relationship goals where they are constantly communicating with each other on the phone, messages and other social media platforms.
The duo, who met on Instagram, are obsessed and possessive about each other. Baani’s father, Atul (Ashutosh Rana), is hunting for a guy for her daughter. She convinces Gaurav to come and meet his father and ask for her hand in marriage. While they both try to convince Atul that there is complete transparency between them and that trust is the biggest foundation of their relationship, he puts them in a trust test by making them exchange their phones for a day.
This test creates havoc in Baani and Gaurav’s lives as many unknown secrets of past and present scenarios unfold most shockingly. Because of this test, their relationship hits a rough patch. Will Baani and Gaurav end up being together? Well, for that you have to watch Loveyapa on the big screen.
Director Advait Chandan beautifully shows how, in this digital age, everything has become an option for Gen Z. Right from food and grocery to dating and relationships, everything is at the tip of the finger where they just do left and right swipe. They fall in love easily with each other and also break up on WhatsApp messages.
Apart from relationship issues, Chandan also showed the dark side of social media and technologies like Deepfake, which impacts the lives of individuals through fat shaming and fake videos.
Talking about the performances, Junaid and Khushi played their character with utmost sincerity and perfectly managed to capture the essence of youthful romance on social media. Ashutosh Rana, Tanvika Parlikar and Kiku Sharda have played their role to the T adding ample laughter moments.
On the whole, Loveyapa is a joyful entertainer, which has all the elements of being a perfect rom-com along with a subtle yet strong message.
