Hollywood actress and diva Kirsten Dunst, who featured in movies like the Spider-Man franchise, Jumanji and delivered an Academy Award-nominated performance in 2021 with The Power of the Dog, says she prefers working with female directors over their male counterparts and the reason will raise your eyebrows.

In an interview with Marie Claire, Kirsten explained how in her young days, her blonde looks would give an impression to male filmmakers that she is someone who would sleep with them if she desired to work with them.

Working with female directors like Jane Campion and Sofia Coppola has allowed her to keep a safe distance from male filmmakers.

“I saw the power in women very young. I think that’s helped with…not needing male attention in my career. I think that’s probably why I migrated to so many female directors at a younger age, because I didn’t want to feel that way," said the actress.

Kirsten revealed that she didn’t for two years as she was getting the roles of ‘sad mom’ after _The Power of the Dog_. “To be honest, that’s been hard for me…because I need to feed myself. The hardest thing is being a mom and…not feeling like, I have nothing for myself. That’s every mother — not just me. There’s definitely less good roles for women my age,” said Dunst.

On the professional front, Kirsten is gearing up for the release of Civil War, which will release on 12th April. Directed by Alex Garland, the film also features Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Nick Offerman in key roles.

Helmed by Ex Machina and Annihilation fame, Civil War is dubbed as an “adrenaline-fuelled thrill ride through a near-future fractured America”. It will have its world premiere at South by Southwest on March 14, 2024
