Akshay Kumar, who is currently gearing up for the release of Kesari: Chapter 2, recently reacted to Jaya Bachchan’s remark on his movie Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. The Shree Narayan Singh, which also featured Bhumi Pednekar in a lead role, was based on the true story of Madhya Pradesh’s Anita Narre, who refused to return to her husband Shivram’s home because it had no toilet.
When Akshay was asked about his films facing criticism from the fraternity at the press conference of Kesari 2, he replied, “Koi bewakoof hi hoga…” “Mujhe nahin lagta kisi ne criticize kiya hai un filmon ko. Koi bewakoof hi hoga jo aise films ko criticize karega. Aap khud dekh lijiye, maine Pad Man banayi, maine Airlift ki, Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Kesari, and now Kesari Chapter 2. Maine bahut dil se banayi hai. Aur koi film agar logon ko kuchh sikhati hai, koi cheez samjhati hai, toh I don’t think usse koi criticize karega.”
When asked about Jaya Bachchan’s comment on Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Akki said, “Ab agar unhone kaha hai toh sahi hoga, mujhe nahi pata. Agar ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ banake maine koi galat kaam kiya hai… agar woh keh rahi hai toh sahi hoga (Now if she has said so, then it must be right. I am not aware of it. If I have done something wrong by making ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’, then… But if she is saying it, then it must be right).”
While talking to India TV, Jaya Bachchan had said that she would never watch the film with a title ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’.“Abhi aap naam bhi dekhiye toh mai aise picturein kabhi na dekhu. Toilet Ek Prem Katha, yeh koi naam hai? Yeh koi title hai? Please bataiye aap logo me se kitne log iss tarah ki title wali film dekhne jayenge. (You look at the name. I would never watch a film with such a title. Is this a title? You tell me how many of you would watch a film with such a name.)”
When she asked if they’d be fine with watching a film with such a title, and a few people raised their hands, Jaya responded, “Among so many people, hardly four people want to watch the film; it’s very sad. Yeh toh flop hai (It is a flop).”
