In India, cricket has always been considered a religion and we have legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid along with modern masters like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
However, legendary Mithali Raj, who owns almost all the records in women’s cricket, didn’t get the recognition she deserved.
A big sports brand recently joined hands with Kareena Kapoor Khan , Vineeta Singh, Mary Kom, and Masaba Gupta to boost women’s cricket through WPL. In the advertisement, we see all the influential personalities sharing why there is not great viewership of women’s cricket. Reasoning that only 18 per cent of the women, who watch cricket enjoy viewing females showing their mettle in this sport.
“Despite huge potential, women’s cricket in India is yet to achieve the desired
numbers when it comes to viewership, as only 18% of the women who watch
men’s cricket, watch women’s game. In the digital film, the stars pledged to
not only come together to watch the WPL match between Delhi Capitals and
Royal Challengers Bangalore at the stadium, but also welcomed women from
all walks of life to join them and enjoy watching the game as a collective over
this unique Ladies‘ Night,” say all the female influential personalities in the ad.
In the climax, they say that cricket is not a gentlemen’s game but everyone’s game and tell every woman to watch this sport. Undoubtedly, the ad aims at a great initiative through its superb narrative, breaking barriers, and empowering women.
However, the main question that arises is while we see a glimpse of women’s cricketers in the ad while warming up and playing cricket, why they are not speaking about the sport?
And, do all these influential personalities follow this sport or women crickets in any aspect?
Well, the crux of the story is that women cricketers deserve to feature in the ad and share their thoughts on the game, which will make the campaign more natural and organic.
