'It became my weapon...even though it broke my heart': Karan Johar on bitter experience in love

Karan Johar is a common name when it comes to romantic blockbusters in Bollywood. The celebrated filmmaker has curved a niche for himself in the industry with superhits like the 1998 film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to his latest Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Karan Johar, who maintains a cordial relationship with most of B-town personalities, also comes across as a social person and is often spotted at celebrity gatherings. However, in personal life, KJo is yet to find love and companionship. While the 51-year-old director-producer is still ‘single’, he is a dotting father to his twins - Roohi and Yash Johar. In a recent interview with designer Prabal Gurung, Karan Johar opened up about his love life and noted that his current status is single. He added that he has never been in many relationships and that finding the right partner was not easy. “I have not been in many relationships. When I came into my own, it was in my mid-30s when I realised that I could do what I wanted to do in the zone of love. It was difficult. It was not easy to find the right partner and be in a relationship that was equal,” KJo said. The filmmaker revealed about his one-sided love which lasted for years adding that it empowered him. Speaking about his inspiration in making _Ae Dil Hai Mushkil_, he said, “I have had a bout of one-sided love, which I made Ae Dil Hai Mushkil from. It was my sad ektarfa pyaar (one-sided love), which lasted many years. But it taught me the power of love itself which is there in the line that Shah Rukh says, ‘To love someone, you don’t need that person’. I believe that very strongly; love became my weapon. It empowered me, even though it broke my heart.” This is not the first time that KJo has been candid about matters related to his heart. Previously too, the Dharma head discussed his dating life and heartbreak. On work front, Karan Johar has been basking in the glory of his latest hit Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The film which stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt among others, achieved commercial success at the box office minting around Rs 350 crore worldwide.
