After huge anticipation and expectation, Rishab Shetty starrer Kantara: Chapter 1 released at the box office on the national holiday of Dussehra & Gandhi Jayanti (2nd October). The film shattered several records on its opening day and emerged as the 2nd biggest opener of the year after Rajinikanth starrer Coolie (Rs 65 crore) in all languages.
The film clashed at the box-office with Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari and has marched miles ahead of that Varun Dhawan-Janhvi Kapoor starrer romantic comedy. This rom-com collected Rs 30 crore in its extended weekend of four days, whereas Rishab Shetty ’s magnum opus minted Rs 223 crore in all the languages.
Kantara: Chapter 1 earned approximately Rs 60 crore (across all languages) and surpassed War 2 (Rs 52.50 crore, including dubbed versions), _Chhaava_ (Rs 33.10 crore), Sikandar (Rs 30.06 crore), Housefull 5 (Rs 24.35 crore), and Saiyaara (Rs 22 crore) to achieve this feat.
With glorious word-of-mouth, the Hindi version of Kantara: Chapter 1 has the potential to hit Rs 90 crore in its extended opening weekend and it seems the Hindi version might just achieve that.
Directed by Rishab Shetty, the movie also features Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram and Gulshan Devaiah in prominent roles and is bankrolled under the banner of Hombale Films.
The Pan-India superstar Yash took to his social media to commend the team of Kantara: Chapter 1 for crafting absolutely phenomenal cinema. He wrote –
