In shocking news, singer Vijay Lakshmi alias Mallika Rajput was reportedly found dead in her house under suspicious circumstances on Tuesday. As informed by the police, the body of the 35-year-old singer was found hanging from the fan in a room of her house, located in the Sitakund locality of Kotwali police station area in UP’s Sultanpur.
Mallika’s mother Sumitra Singh, when asked about the tragic demise of her daughter, said that the family was sleeping and had no idea when it happened. While speaking to a media handle, she said, “Earlier the door was closed. And the light was on. We took three rounds but could not open the door. At last, I looked through the window and saw that she was standing there. When I knocked on the door, I saw that our daughter was hanging. I called my husband and others but she was no more."
Kotwali police station in-charge Shriram Pandey stated that prima facie seems to be a case of suicide but the exact cause of death would be known after the postmortem is done.
Who was Mallika Rajput?
Mallika Rajput is a renowned singer and has acted in a few movies. She is popularly known for her supporting role in Kangana Ranaut’s crime comedy Revolver Rani. The film was released in the year 2014. The late singer also made an appearance in a music video for the song Yaara Tujhe which was crooned by Bollywood singer Shaan.
In 2016, Mallika went on to kickstart her political career and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). However, within two years of entering the political corridors, she chose to quit. Both her political and entertainment career did not last long and the singer resorted to spirituality. She was appointed as the National Secretary General of the Bharatiya Savarna Sangh in Uttar Pradesh in 2022. In addition to that, Mallika was a trainer Kathak dancer and also tried her hand at writing and performing her Gazals at poetry sessions.
