'Kahan Shuru Kahan Khatam' movie review: Rakesh Bedi and COVID-19 jokes save the show in Aashim Gulati and Dhvani Bhanushali's comedy of (t)errors

The climax is pretentious, with sermons and monologues about women empowerment and equality. By that time, the damage is done, with only Rakesh Bedi and one good joke about COVID-19 landing safely

'Kahan Shuru Kahan Khatam' movie review: Rakesh Bedi and COVID-19 jokes save the show in Aashim Gulati and Dhvani Bhanushali's comedy of (t)errors

Cast: Dhvani Bhanushali, Aashim Gulati, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Rakesh Bedi, Sonali Sachdev, Rajesh Sharma, Akhilendra Mishra

Director: Saurabh Dasgupta

Language: Hindi

It’s hard to decide or decode why this film that has released today is called Kahan Shuru Kahan Khatam. The film is produced by Laxman Utekar, who revels in telling small-town stories bursting with vibrant characters and comedy of errors, this time, it’s a comedy of terrors. Directed by Saurabh Dasgupta, Kahan Shuru Kahan Khatam is what happens when Wedding Crashers meets Runaway Bride meets all the cringe and banal comedies. Of course, the bride refuses to get married since nobody asked her even if she wishes to get married or not.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

And then there’s Ashim Gulati, acting effeminately for some bizarre reasons in many scenes. Then there’s a preposterous queer couple kept mostly for laughs; Hindi Cinema makes an attempt to be progressive in telling their stories, and in the name of comedy comes films like these that take us back to the era of cavemen. Of course, the girl is on the run and her men are out on a manhunt. It’s all done and dusted but seasoned performers and veterans like Rakesh Bedi, Akhilendra Mishra, and Rajesh Sharma save the show, if not steal it.

There’s Supriya Pilgaonkar too, who already has her film 2003 film Tujhe Meri Kasam running in adjacent audis at multiplexes as a re-release. Despite overcooking her fearless avatar, she still manages to pump some life into an ailing narrative that’s heading towards a dead end. And that brings us to the lady because of whom all the chaos has unfolded- Dhvani Bhanushali. The actress is largely one-note, and the joy or the thrill or even the anxiety of being hounded by hungry men for being a runaway bride is surprisingly missing.

The climax is pretentious, with sermons and monologues about women empowerment and equality. By that time, the damage is done, with only Rakesh Bedi and one good joke about COVID-19 landing safely. And these are the only two good things you remember by the time the film is Khatam.
