Kabir Singh: CBFC member Vani Tripathi Tikoo criticises Shahid Kapoor's film, calls it 'terribly misogynstic'

Central Board of Film Certification member Vani Tripathi Tikoo has criticised Shahid Kapoor’s latest movie, Kabir Singh , calling it a “terribly misogynistic and extremely violent” film_._ She has also slammed Shahid for deciding to star in the movie. Earlier, Sona Mohapatra had criticised the depiction of toxic masculinity in the film and also slammed Shahid. “Does the actor have no responsibility for choosing to play a part in a narrative that can set us back as a society?,” she asked, responding to TV actor Nakuul Mehta’s praise of Shahid’s “intense acting.” Shobhaa De also railed against the film’s glorification of stalking. Meanwhile, Mumbai-based doctor Pradeep Ghatge has written to Maharashtra Health Minister Eknath Shinde complaining about the alleged “negative” portrayal of doctors in the recently released movie  Kabir Singh  stating that the film sends a “wrong message” about the medical profession. However, despite the criticism, Kabir Singh, which also stars Kiara Advani_,_ continues to dominate the box office. As per the latest reports, the film has already crossed the Rs 100 crore mark. Its current earnings stand at Rs 104.90 crore, after a five-day-run at the box office. A Hindi remake of Telugu blockbuster  Arjun Reddy , Kabir Singh has also been helmed by original director Sandeep Reddy Vanga. It narrates the story of a short-tempered surgeon Kabir Singh (Shahid Kapoor) who goes on a path of self-destruction, consuming drugs and alcohol after he couldn’t marry the love of his life Preeti (Kiara Advani). The film also stars Soham Majumdar, Arjan Bajwa, Suresh Oberoi, Nikita Dutta and Kamini Kaushal in pivotal roles.
