Veteran writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar was at an event recently where he spoke about Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Ranbir Kapoor’s film Animal and spoke at length about the dangerous trend its success could create. In particular, he spoke about the one scene where Kapoor’s character asks the character of Tripti Dimri to lick his shoe before he walks away from the scene. Team Animal hit back at Akhtar by saying all his art form is big false and stated the reason for the same. However, fans on X have stood by Akhtar and slammed the makers of the film for their retort. They brought examples of Amitabh Bachchan’s Deewar and Shah Rukh Khan’s _Swades_. Here are some reactions:

Akhtar, who along with former writing partner Salim Khan, is known for penning films such  as “Zanjeer”, “Deewar”, and “Mr India“, recently said the commercial success of films with problematic scenes was a “dangerous” trend. He added, “People tell me that they are not liking the songs of recent times. But only 5-6 people are responsible for the making of the song. A song like Choli Ke Peeche Kya hai was made by 8-10 people. They aren’t the real problem. The real problem is that the song became superhit, it was liked by millions. This is what I’m afraid of.” In response, the “ _Animal_” team on X tagged Akhtar and wrote: “Writer of your calibre cannot understand the betrayal of a lover (Between Zoya & Ranvijay) then all your art form is big FALSE… Let love be free from the politics of gender… (sic).” With added inputs from agencies
