Amid the ongoing war between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas, the entertainment industry has been speaking out in favour and against the developments. From signing open letters to calling out the barbaric aftermath of the war in the Middle East, many have come forward to share their views. Among all the reactions, Hollywood actress Melissa Barrera was also among the ones to speak out on the same. In a series of social media posts, she was seen expressing her support for the Palestinian cause while criticizing the Israeli action, that followed after the Hamas attack. However, as a result of her social media posts, the actress has been dropped from Spyglass Media’s Scream VII. Melissa Barrera dropped from Scream VII In a statement issued in regard to the development, the media company said, “Spyglass’ stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.” Notably, this came in the wake of the social media posts that the actress shared on Instagram. While one of her Instagram stories read, “Gaza is currently being treated like a concentration camp”, another post read, “Cornering everyone together, with no where to go, no electricity no water … People have learnt nothing from our histories. And just like our histories, people are still silently watching it all happen. THIS IS GENOCIDE & ETHNIC CLEANSING.”
Apart from that, she has been also sharing several videos, related to the ongoing war in Israel. In the meantime, while the actress is yet to comment on the development, the producers of Scream VII, Spyglass Media Group said that Melissa’s comments on her social media posts were ‘interpreted as antisemitic.’ On the other hand, director Christopher Landon in a now-deleted tweet wrote, “Everything sucks. Stop yelling. This was not my decision to make.” Melissa Barrera in the Scream franchise For the unversed, Melissa Barrera has been a significant part of the Scream films.
