Opal Suchata Chuangsri of Thailand was crowned Miss World on Saturday in India, where the international pageant was held this year. Chuangsri topped a field of 108 contestants in the contest held in India’s southern Hyderabad city. Hasset Dereje Admassu of Ethiopia was the first runner-up in the competition. She received her crown from last year’s winner Krystyna Pyszková.
The 72nd Miss World beauty pageant was hosted by Miss World 2016 Stephanie del Valle and Indian presenter Sachiin Kumbhar. India hosted the beauty competition last year as well.
Is Bollywood the next step for the winner?
Speaking to ANI, Chuangsri said she would love to work in Bollywood if there is an opportunity. She also spoke about her emotions over her giant victory.
Chuangsri said, “I feel very happy and proud. It is an honour to take the first Miss World crown to Thailand… I hope I have made them proud…If I get the opportunity, I would love to (act in Bollywood films); it is a wonderful opportunity…”
She added, “It was amazing in India. Since the first day I was here, everyone has been so nice..people are amazing, they have been so wonderful to me and we went to so many places..all are so beautiful..whether it is infrastructure or nature.. it’s great to be here and I will definitely be back.”
“I would like to thank the Telangana government and all the people here for providing us with the best accommodation and allowing us to have such a great time in your home,” the Miss World continued.
Born on March 20, 2003, in Phuket, Thailand, she was raised in a family hailing from the hospitality industry. Currently, she’s studying Political Science at Thammasat University, specialising in International Relations. She’s originally from Phuket and is a student of international relations.
Her cancer story
She revealed, “I had breast surgery after being diagnosed with a benign tumour when I was 16. I promote breast cancer awareness.” Opal is also an animal lover.
