Amid India’s Got Latent row, Apoorva Mukhija aka Rebel Kid’s name has been removed official IIFA ambassador list. The 25th edition of the award ceremony will take place next month in Jaipur. This comes after Ranveer Allahbadia’s lewd comment at Samay Raina’s show, which was also attended by Mukhija.
Diya Kumari, Tourism minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan shared this update with an official statement, which read, “It has been mentioned on behalf of IIFA that the name of social media influencer Apoorva Mukhija has been removed from the list of IIFA ambassadors. She is now not officially a part of the list of IIFA ambassadors”.
This was done after Karni Sena threatened to disrupt Apoorva’s planned shoot related to the IIFA show in Udaipur, which was scheduled for later this month.
“Such indecent and uncultured people who are bringing their culture on the road for their selfish interest and spreading vulgarity will not only be opposed in Mewar but will be beaten with shoes. If they land at the Dabok Airport then they will be boycotted. It is a request and ultimatum to the Tourism Department that she should not come to Mewar before we take any step,” the report quoted Dr Paramveer Singh Dulawat, division head of Rajput Karni Sena, in Udaipur.
The controversy started with the latest episode of India’s Got Latent, where Ranveer asked a contestant, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?” Soon, this comment spread like a wildfire on social and sparked outrage among netizens followed by garnering backlash from celebs and politicians. After the backlash, Ranveer Allahbadia shared a video apologising for his joke and said, “My comment wasn’t inappropriate; comedy is not my forte. I am just here to say sorry. Many asked, Is this how I use the platform? to which he stated, ‘Obviously, this is not how I wish to use it. I am not going to give any context or justification or reasoning behind whatever happened; I am just here for the apology,” he wrote. “I personally had a lapse, and judgment wasn’t cool on my path. The podcast is watched by people of all ages. I don’t want to be the person that takes that responsibility lightly, and family is the last thing that I would disrespect.”
