'Hisaab Barabar' movie review: R. Madhavan and Neil Nitin Mukesh unite for a ghastly take on a common man's plight

Cast: R. Madhavan, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Kirti Kulhari

Director: Ashwni Dhir

Language: Hindi

Who wouldn’t want to take a break from bone- crunching violence? Ever since the pandemic has ended, the audiences have unfortunately begun to have a fetish for violence and bloodshed. More the blood, bigger the Box Office. In between we have surprises like Laapataa Ladies and Madgaon Express. But this new film on Zee5 called Hisaab Barabar starring R. Madhavan, Neil Nitin Mukesh, and Kirti Kulhari isn’t the right choice to break the current mould of the industry. The story is about a common man who is a ticket collector. This guy is played by Madhavan.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

The villain of the story is Neil Nitin Mukesh, who feels like his character from Players and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo snorted more than he could handle. His introduction scene is a cringe dance number that’s followed by ghastly dialogues and forgettable moments. His horrific deeds are juxtaposed by Madhavan’s honest demeanour. The VFX are so awful, it’s not rocket science to figure out this TT is getting on to a green screen and not the train. It’s disheartening to see fine actors participating in trainwrecks of a film. This drivel is by Ashwini Dhir of Son of Sardaar and Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge fame.

The plot is nothing but a battle between good and evil and how good triumphs over evil. But it’s so lifeless and lunatic, you spend most of your time writing an inconsequential review of an inconsequential film. The film, despite releasing directly on a streaming giant, is unlikely to have many takers, ditto for this review. Anything not steeped in violence would mean a breath of fresh air, but if the air looks and smells like Hisaab Barabar, I’d rather be exhausted by that bone-crunching violence I needed a break from.

Rating: 1 (out of 5 stars)

Hisaab Barabar will premiere on Zee5 from January 24
