Gully Boy's 'Apna Time Ayega' sees Ranveer Singh finetune his rapping skills with a Mumbaiyya slang-laden song
Gully Boy, starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, will release on 14 February.

The first song 'Apna Time Ayega' from Zoya Akhtar's coming-of-age musical Gully Boy dropped on 14 January. Performed by Ranveer Singh, the hard-hitting rap has been written by Divine and Ankur Tewari.

The video offers montages from the film including Ranveer's character as a driver, his romantic interest played by Alia Bhatt and him fine-tuning his rapping skills with a mentor-like figure. He raps about a making it big and having a better tomorrow. 'Apna Time Ayega' is laden with Mumbaiyya slang and set to a catchy tune composed by Divine and Dub Sharma.
The song also borrows from Divine's latest release 'Teesri Manzil.' 'Tu nanga his toh aaya hai, kya ghanta le kar jaayega?' (You were born with nothing, what will you take back when you die?) Ranveer belts out the lyrics and excites the crowd in a nightclub.
Gully Boy is based on the lives of rappers Vivian Fernandes aka Divine and Naved Shaikh aka Naezy, known for their song 'Mere Gully Mei' in Mumbai. The narrative revolves around street rappers of India and their rise. The film, which also stars Kalki Koechlin, will premiere at the 2019 Berlin International Film Festival.
Produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar's Excel Entertainment, Gully Boy hits theatres on 14 February.
