The honours in the supporting categories went to Sam Elliott for his performance in A Star Is Born and Regina King for If Beale Street Could Talk. The Best Screenplay awards were given to Paul Schrader’s First Reformed (original) and Barry Jenkins’ If Beale Street Could Talk (adapted). NBR is one of first to declare its selections for the year, followed by New York Film Critics Circle. However, there were few films which were possible contenders but snubbed by the committee.
