Dharmendra had an experience of over six decades in front of the camera. The moment the name appears or arrives or is even heard, we think of a solid man, the son of the soil, a man with fists of iron and heart of gold.
And someone with a tough exterior. But given the actor and his relentless spirit to contribute to Hindi cinema, he was the most vulnerable of the artists who blows the celluloid with his spectacularly vociferous and versatile performances. Dharmendra was more than just An Action Hero.
We are here to talk about the legendary actor’s most iconic leading ladies with whom he shared blazing chemistry and blockbuster successes:
Hema Malini
The two did films like Sholay, Seeta Aur Geeta, Charas, Dream Girl, Razia Sultan, The Burning Train, Krodhi, and many more.
Hema Malini once said in an interview back in 1976, “Now that I am friendly with a man, they say we are having an affair. But one thing is certain. He is the one man who can confide all of his troubles in me. And I, too, feel free to go to him with my problems. We do a lot of collecting and thinking about our careers and roles. He adores me and seeks my opinions on his roles.”
**Asha Parekh**Speaking to News 9, Parekh spoke about the veteran’s demise and said, “Memories are many, but he was a wonderful person. It was fun working with him. There was no tension on the set when he was around.”
The actress added, “He was very generous, kind and always looking out for. I think there was no one more generous than him in the industry.”
**Meena Kumari**It was once said in a letter actress Nargis wrote- “If Meena has ever loved anyone passionately, the person is Dharmendra. If Meena ever turned crazy in love for someone, it was Dharmendra.”
Saira Banu
Mala Sinha
Sharmila Tagore
The actress told NDTV, “I was almost daily on the phone with them. I knew he was critical, I really really wished he would make through.”
She said, “When he was late for outdoor shooting, Rishi Da continued without him. After that, Dharam was never late for Rishi Da’s set. He was worried that his role would be cut. He was a wonderful person.”
“I did many romantic films, I keep coming to Chupke Chupke, It was a comedy. Everyone should see him in it and laugh,” the veteran actress added.
Sharmila Tagore concluded, “He was a patriarch. Everyone called him papaji. He was a proper patriarch. He looked after everybody. He was a person you go to.”
