Akshay plays a lovable gangster from Punjab, and director Anees Bazmee narrated the film’s story to Akshay in just five minutes over a phone call, leading to an immediate agreement from the actor.
Apart from that, Once director of the film shared how the idea for Akshay Kumar’s character, Happy Singh, wearing a turban came to be. He recalled, when he randomly arrived on the set where Akshay was shooting for another project. He took a turban and asked him to wear it. And once Akshay wore the turban and Vipul loved him in Turban, he knew immediately that this was how he wanted to shape the character of Happy Singh. Perhaps it was because Akshay had never played a Sardar before. Gradually, the entire script was adjusted with the Sikh community in mind. We decided to cast other actors who would convincingly fit the roles as Sikhs.
