This must have been around the pandemic or months before that. A lady called Urfi Javed became an overnight sensation after her unconventional, outrageous, explosive and controversial dress sense. She grabbed multiple eyeballs hundreds of articles and tons of attention. In fact, there were a lot of people who criticized her for trying to tear the envelope instead of pushing it. But she just kept going and on many occasions, giving it back to her naysayers. Then comes a time when you want to branch out and you want people to know more about you.
Amazon Prime Video’s new original series Follow Kar Lo Yaar is Urfi, now spelled as Uorfi’’s branching out. Is this an attempt at redemption or something else? This time, she has a dysfunctional family too that comes as a bit of a struggle for the actress and on the other hand, she’s hell bent to prove she’s beyond what she wears in public. What happened there was an attempt to be known, and what happens here is an attempt to be known beyond. For those who have been following religiously for years don’t have to do it all over again. This series is for those who have either been furious at her audacity or refuse to look over and above the person she is.
For those who are indifferent, that’s a different discussion. Follow Kar Lo Yaar isn’t comedic stuff. It’s built on frustrations and an actress’ plea to expand what we call in Bollywood, an image. And barring Uorfi, we mostly see fresh faces that don’t come with any form of baggage. The gatekeepers of the society who think they have the power to control how men and women should behave, Javed wants to win them over too. Jarring lines and some inconsistencies aside, what Follow Kar Lo Yaar has is glimpses and spurts of earnestness. If that’s enough for you to check it out, go ahead and do what Uorfi Javed is saying in the title.
