After Laapataa Ladies, Madgaon Express, has again proved that you really don’t need ‘big stars’ to make a good film. All you need are brilliant craftsmen and a story.

Farhan Akhtar’s Madgaon Express Movie Review: Kunal Kemmu’s directorial debut will leave you in fits of laughter
Farhan Akhtar’s Madgaon Express movie review

Language: Hindi with a dash of Marathi and Konkanese

Cast: Divyenndu, Avinash Tiwary, Pratik Gandhi, Chhaya Kadam, Upendra Limaye, Nora Fatehi

Director: Kunal Kemmu

Madgaon Express is a funny ride filled with laughter. This is a movie which will entertain you to the fullest. Looks like Kunal Kemmu has made a very successful directorial debut. It will take you back to Dil Chahta Hai, but definitely it is not DCH’s poor cousin. Packed with a full dose of humour which seems to be vanishing from our lives, this film is definitely a must watch. Madgaon Express, directed and written by Kunal Kemmu, is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the banner of Excel Entertainment.

The awesome threesome has again proved that the story is the hero and all you need are good actors, not stars with their perfect bodies, hair and makeup. The plot is simple with no complications, but very relevant. No twists and turns in the beginning of the story when three friends dream together to make an all-boys fun trip to Goa with booze, bikinis and bombshells.  But their dreams remain unfulfilled. Finally one day out of the blue, they meet virtually again and plan on going on a holiday to Goa. The trip is not what they expected it to be.

Divyenndu’s character as Dodo is absolutely smashing. And we have all seen his performance before whether it is the _The Railway Men_ or Mirzapur who knows exactly how to play the bad man or the good man with a twist. He is actually the perfect choice for any layered role. I remember once mentioned in one of his interviews that he wants people to remember him for his craft and not for his box-office number. True to his words he has lived up to teh expectation of his audiences.

A still from Madgaon Express

Going back to the story, the Dodo ( Divyenndu ) helps his other two friends to fulfil their childhood dreams. Since Dodo is jobless, he plays a very cheap trip to Goa in _Madgaon Express_ . But the story isn’t as simple as it sounds. But the film promises not to give the audience a single moment of boredom.

The performances of all the actors are flawless whether it is the three lead actors or Mendoza Bhai (Upendra Limaye) and Kanchan Kumbdi (Chhaya Kadam). Everybody has done justice to their roles. Chhaya Kadam’s performance is brilliant as she makes a dramatic entry in the film in draping a sari in Konkani style, wearing a nath (Maharashtrian nose pin) with perfect jewellery and not to forget those dashing black boots, goggles and revolvers tucked to her waist.

Filled with clever and witty dialogues Madgaon Express will leave you with a tummy ache. Full of entertainment, you will not regret watching it.

Rating: 4 out of 5
