EXCLUSIVE | Prime Video's 'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2' actress Cynthia Addai-Robinson on her character in the show: 'I don't have to be in a position to lead a nation because...' | Not Just Bollywood

The globe is all set for Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 and the anticipation is on cloud nine. In an exclusive interview with Firstpost’s Lachmi Deb Roy, actress Cynthia Addai-Robinson spoke about how much she can relate to her character, how  it has evolved, and there were some really interesting revelations.

Edited excerpts from the interview with the actress in Singapore:

How much has your character evolved in the show?

A lot. And I think, to me, the best drama is you want to feel a sense of change and progression and evolution for any character because you’re putting them through a series of tests and trials. You certainly are hopeful that they are learning and gaining from those things, but sometimes it puts them on a different path, perhaps. And I think with Miriel, she’s starting from such a low place in the beginning of season two that I’m sure the audience is rooting for her and hoping that there’s nowhere to go but up.

But I think that, you know, she’s going to be navigating challenges. And numenor, at this point in time is definitely splitting into two. It’s in a very precarious state, and between Miriel and her worldview and the direction she believes her people should go and Fazan and his worldview and the direction he thinks society should go, there’s going to be a lot of tension and a lot of drama. So I’m excited for people to see this.

How much you relate to this character, role character and your real life character? How much of similarity does it have?

I’m very grateful that I don’t have to be in a position to lead a nation because it’s complicated. It’s not easy. But I think, you know, her sense of, you know, morality and trying to do right and do good and her conviction in her belief. I relate to that. And I think for both of these characters, what is interesting is they both have a deep sense of conviction and a deep love for their country. So they share that, but it’s just the specifics around their views where they start to really sort of veer apart. But, yeah, I feel like Miriel and sort of her internal nature, her internal struggle, I very much feel like that in my life where I keep things internal and it’s a swing swirl of things, but trying to remain calm on the outside. So, you know, I feel honored and privileged to even get to portray Miriel. And I have a lot of ownership over this character at this point.

How immersive is it going to be your role? How immersive does it get?

I think our artisans on the show, from the costumers to the production designers, the sets, the locations, we’re fortunate because it doesn’t take much. Once we step into our clothes and onto those sets or locations, it’s a 360 degree view of a place that feels very real to us. When you’re in a world that you presumably should know as a character very intimately, it helps that as the actor, we just get to kind of look and touch and see and even smell, you know, full sensory exploration of places that feel very real to us. So I think for the audience, I think that very much comes across as well.
