Director Tanuj Chopra on the ‘Baby Falak’ case
When being asked since it’s inspired from a true story, the responsibility must have been huge, to which Tanuj had to say, “The responsibility, the story, the franchise, the legacy. There’s always a pressure when it comes to Delhi Crime, especially the lenses of the social commentary that we put. I feel built for it as a filmmaker.”
He adds, “As a filmmaker, I always try to represent issues that are meaningful. More than that you always have to work without fear, and directors also have their versions of being terrified. You have to let it go and start shooting and look for the truth. You keep trying things and push far by using all your tools. You never really know when you get it right. You have to proceed with an open heart and a lot of research.”
He mentioned that the process for _Delhi Crime_ has always been that you research on the crime that took place and then develop on it. “You have to add a lot more to the original source material to make it work on the digital platform.”
Tanuj further adds, “Here we got the case, the baby Falak case where a fourteen-year-old girl in Delhi brings a baby to the hospital with bruises all over her. Over the course of the treatment, cops realise that the young girl is not the mother. The police force then begin their search for the mother. Then they realise that there is a big trafficking ring.”
