Vaani Kapoor, who garnered praises for her versatility and performances in films like Shuddh Desi Romance, War, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui and Raid 2 among others, is currently basking in the success of Netflix’s recent gripping web show, Mandala Murders.
Post the success of the crime thriller web series, Vaani Kapoor spoke about the huge gender pay gap in the entertainment industry in an exclusive interview with Firstpost’s Lachmi Deb Roy.
Commenting about pay disparity and the gender pay gap in Bollywood, the actress said that she is yet to attain a ‘certain stature’ to ‘command and demand’, but at this point she is ‘greedier and hungrier for work’.
“I have not attained a certain stature yet where I can command and demand. I hope someday I’m capable enough when I am able to demand what I feel I deserve. I also feel it’s a form of respect and certain value that you’re bringing to your project, but I still didn’t reach that as yet, not in my eyes, so I feel whatever I’m getting is enough for me as long as I keep getting to do what I want to do. If tomorrow I see that I have reached a level where I feel okay to demand a certain amount then I will go ahead and ask for that. Till then, I respect the amount that I get,” said Vaani, adding, “In fact, at this point of my life I am greedier and hungrier for work, but the industry is very unpredictable, it rides a lot on box office numbers and the audience pull that one has.”
Directed by Gopi Puthran & Manan Rawat, Netflix’s _Mandala Murders_ also features Vaibhav Raj Gupta, Surveen Chawla, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Siddhanth Kapoor, Rahul Bagga, Raghubir Yadav and Monica Choudhary in prominent roles.
Based on a book ‘The Butcher of Benaras’ by Mahendra Jakhar, the Netflix series reimagines the book’s plot, shifting the focus from the Vatican and Bhrigu Samhita to a secret cult worshipping a god named Yast. The murders are linked to a cult called Ayastha Mandala.
