What is the revival of weaves?
The revival of weaves in the fashion industry is about a growing appreciation for traditional craftsmanship and sustainable practices. It’s a real shift towards more meaningful, historically relevant, and ethically produced garments. And I personally only wish for the movement to keep on growing and flourishing.
India is particularly a special place for it. Barring the last 2-3 decades when we lost our way in the maddening race of fast fashion, Indians always clothed themselves with garments that were made with deft masterful fingers, talent, and artisanal skills passed down in communities through generations. We have all been to tailors and picked embroidery designs and gone to the lace shop and shopped from the cutwork specialists. It’s time we brought it back to its former glory. There is an innate quality to garments made by human hands, with intent, with ethical meaningful practices. When Anima and Animus is on the runway at Lakmē Fashion Week X FDCI – doing the impossible of bringing traditional craft within the starkly modern silhouette of men’s fashion, it gives a new life to our older art forms. It’s glorious truly.
Why is it important for fashion to go slow?
I believe it is important for fashion to go slow because the other way is fast and it’s exploitative, unsustainable, and honestly takes the joy out of it all. I don’t respect hauls; I do not appreciate shopping that looks like gluttonous accumulation. It’s important that we pay attention to what we buy, what we choose to bring in contact with our skin, that we take care of these clothes, we associate meaning and memories with them.

What is the revival of weaves?
The revival of weaves represents a fundamental aspect of cultural sustainability. While our current focus remains on environmental sustainability, our upcoming collection shifts towards cultural sustainability. We aim to incorporate a lot of primitive weaves to work on our fabric waste from previous collections.
Why is it important for fashion to go slow?
I feel it is imperative for fashion to adopt a slower approach. Our capacity to manage waste is finite. I personally am a strong advocate of slow fashion brands and clothes that tell a story and would always want to only create collections that have a story behind them. We strive hard to not create any waste in our entire process of our production and are constantly working on using the waste generated in the process.

What is the revival of weaves?
In today’s fast-paced world dominated by fast fashion, it’s crucial for our generation to cherish and uphold our traditional crafts. The revival of weaves entails efforts to preserve and promote our traditional weaving craft practices, by incorporating them into modern designs and making them relevant to contemporary tastes. This endeavor not only safeguards our cultural heritage but also provides livelihood opportunities for artisans and promotes sustainability in the fashion industry.
Why is it important for fashion to go slow?
It is very important for fashion to go slow because fashion transcends mere clothing; it’s a means of expression and empowerment. Every choice we make holds the power to shape the world around us. Adopting a slow fashion approach encourages consumers to prioritize quality over quantity, fostering a more sustainable and responsible attitude towards fashion consumption.
Kriti Greta Singhee:
What is the revival of weaves?
The revival of weaves encompasses more than just economic development; it’s about preserving tradition in our rapidly changing modern world. Handloom weaving not only fosters economic growth but also connects communities, keeping us rooted in our cultural heritage and identity.
Why is it important for fashion to go slow?
The importance of fashion adopting a slower approach lies in addressing the adverse effects of the fast fashion industry, including climate and environmental damage, waste, and worker exploitation. Slow or sustainable fashion empowers consumers to make choices that conserve resources and minimize harm to the planet.
