On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra (2nd October), the entertainment industry witnessed a box office battle between pan-India biggie Kantara: Chapter 1 starring Rishab Shetty and Rukmini Vasanth and Dharma’s rom-com Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari featuring Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Rohit Saraf and Sanya Malhotra.
Both films benefited from the national holiday by getting good initial sales at the ticket windows. As per prominent box office trade expert Ramesh Bala, Kantara: Chapter 1 has garnered 70 per cent while Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari has opened to 50 per cent in the morning shows across the country.
With the advantage of the national holiday, both lead stars have a solid chance to get their biggest openers of all time with their latest releases. However, Kantara: Chapter 1 and Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari will witness a dip tomorrow because of a working Friday and will gain momentum on Saturday and Sunday.
Talking about Kantara: Chapter 1, it is the prequel to Kantara (2022) and also features Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah and Jayaram in prominent roles. It is directed by Rishab Shetty and bankrolled by Vijay Kiragandur and Chaluve Gowda under the banner of Hombale Films.
On the other hand, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari marks the reunion of director Shashank Khaitan and Varun Dhawan after Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania. It is produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Adar Poonawalla and Shashank Khaitan under the banners of Dharma Productions and Mentor Disciple Entertainment.
